Patrick Oki: President's Message
Aloha AGA members and prospective members! I, along with the leadership team are very excited for this upcoming chapter year. Our goals this year are to continue to grow our membership, provide excellent educational programs and support our community. Our 16th biennial Governmental Professional Development Conference (GPDC) kicked off our year with high caliber speakers and interesting topics addressing the latest issues and developments affecting all of us. As the conference chairperson, I want to thank everyone - attendees, speakers, sponsors, and volunteers for making our conference a truly outstanding educational event. We had great successes last year under the leadership of our past president, Cindy Yee. Our chapter received the gold level designation in the Chapter Recognition Program sponsored by AGA National. Cindy accepted and received the award at AGA’s 60th Annual Professional Development Conference (PDC) and Exposition in Atlanta. At the PDC in Atlanta, Ross Okumura, president-elect and I met many AGA members, chapters and speakers. We received valuable information and had the opportunity to share best practices with each other. Serving as your chapter president is an honor. I truly believe that our chapter is the leader in our state for providing outstanding educational programs and events for financial and accounting professionals working for or involved in the public sector. For those of you who are new to AGA or thinking about joining, I invite you to attend a chapter event. We have so much to offer including education, networking, mentoring, student relations, community support and more. For those of you who are members of our chapter, I hope you continue to take full advantage of your membership. Get involved in our chapter by serving on a committee and/or consider becoming a board member or committee chairperson in the near future. I challenge each member to bring in one new member this year. Each of you knows someone who could benefit from AGA while contributing their expertise and talents to our chapter. I look forward in serving all of you throughout the year. Pat Oki |
